Mahmoud Hegazy (11 May 1956-) was Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces from 27 March 2014 to 28 October 2017, succeeding Sedki Sobhy and preceding Mohammed Farid Hegazy.
Biography[]
Mahmoud Hegazy was born in Egypt in 1956, and he joined the Egyptian Army in 1977 before serving in the Gulf War. He served as chief of military intelligence before serving as Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces from 2014 to 2017 amid the Sinai insurgency, the Second Libyan Civil War, and the Yemeni Civil War. He was dismissed as the Islamist insurgency in the Sinai intensified, but he remained on the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.
