Mahamat Deby Itno (1 January 1984-) was the head of state of Chad from 20 April 2021, succeeding Idriss Deby.
Biography[]
Mahamat Deby Itno was born in Chad in 1984, the son of Idriss Deby. He received military training in France before serving in the Second Chadian Civil War and as second-in-command of the Chadian inttervention in the Mali War. After his father's death at the hands of the FACT rebels on 20 April 2021, Mahamat became Chairman of the Transitional Military Council, becoming the authoritarian head of state and leading the regime's efforts against the advancing rebels.
