Magomed Vagabov (1 January 1975-21 August 2010), also known as Emir Seyfullah Gubdensky, was the Emir of the Vilayat Dagestan from 15 July to 21 August 2010, succeeding Umalat Magomedov and preceding Israpil Velijanov.
Biography[]
Magomed Vagabov was born on 1 January 1975 in Gubden, Dagestan RSFSR in the Soviet Union (present-day Dagestan, Russia) to a Sunni Dargin family. Vagabov moved to Pakistan in 1994 for religious instruction, and he memorized the Koran. In Karachi, he studied sharia and learned to speak Farsi and Urdu. In 1997 he returned to Dagestan and opened a mosque in Gubden, and also received training from a camp owned by Ibn al-Khattab, a militant from Saudi Arabia. He fought in the Second Chechen War against the Russian Army, and in July 2010 he was made the leader of Vilayat Dagestan, succeeding Umalat Magomedov. In 2010 he organized the 2010 Moscow Metro bombings, killing 40 people and wounding 100; his wife Mariam Sharipova was one of the suicide bombers. On 21 August 2010, the Russian FSB counter-terrorist security forces raided the village of Gunib, where he was hiding out with other Chechen militants. Vagabov and four other rebels were killed in action, avenging the bombings.
