Biography[]

Magomed Salaudinovich Tushayev was born in the Russian SFSR, Soviet Union in 1986, and he became commander of the 141st Motorized Regiment of the Chechen National Guard and the OMON special police unit. Tushayev participated in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, during which he was reportedly killed on 27 February 2022 when Ukraine destroyed a convoy of 56 tanks near Kyiv. However, Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov allegedly phoned Tushayev and spoke with him for a few minutes, and three photos and a few videos purportedly showing Tushayev with his men in northern Kyiv were posted on social media accounts to claim that the reports of Tushayev's death were false. The Kyiv Independent defense reporter Illia Ponomarenko celebrated his reported demise due to his involvement in the abduction, torture, and killing of LGBT people in Chechnya during Kadyrov's "gay purges". On 16 March 2022, Chechen media released a video allegedly showing a live Tushayev denying the claim that he had been killed. As of 2024, he is still alive and well.
