
Magnus II of Orkney (1181-1 July 1239) was Jarl of Orkneyar from 1231 to 1239, succeeding Jon Haraldsson and preceding Gilbert of Orkney.
Biography[]
Magnus was born in 1181, the son of the Scottish-Norwegian nobleman Gilbert. In 1231, following the death of Jon Haraldsson at sea, King Haakon IV of Norway chose Magnus to become the new Jarl of Orkneyar, and he reigned until his death in 1239.
