Machaon the Enlightened Fisherman (died 429 BC) was a Greek mercenary during the Peloponnesian War.

Biography[]

Machaon the Enlightened Fisherman was an Ethiopian fisherman who became a mercenary in Greece during the Peloponnesian War. It was believed that he liked using a net to catch his prey before killing it.

In 429 BC, he was hired to hunt down and kill the Spartan mercenary Kassandra, tracking her down to the Greek island of Melos. While searching for her at Trypiti Fort, she assassinated him from the tall grass.
