The Movement for Socialism-Political Instrument for the Sovereignty of the Peoples (MAS-IPSP) is a socialist party in Bolivia founded on 1 January 1998 by Evo Morales. MAS-IPSP's goal was to defend coca farmers from the United States' efforts to eradicate the cultivation of the plant (which was processed into cocaine on many occasions), and while the party supported the nationalization of all fossil fuel companies, it also pursued a policy of environmentalism.
MAS-IPSP was primarily supported by indigenous communities, rural populations, and the working class, and its strongholds were in the western and central regions of the country, including La Paz, Cochabamba, and Oruro departments.
