Luis el Valiente (1157-1182) was the prince of Castile and a leader of crusaders.

Biography[]

Luis el Valiente was the prince of Castile, and one of the crusading nobles who defended Jerusalem from the Fatimid Caliphate's armies to the south. He led an army north into the Sultanate of Rum's lands in southern Turkey, following the Seljuk attack on an encroaching Castilian army, but his 23 men were massacred by Salamish of Merv's army of 182 Turkish troops.
