
Luigi R. Marano (1921-29 December 2017) was a Republican Party politician from Brooklyn, New York. He served in the State Assembly from 1957 to 1964 and on the Court of Claims from 1973 to 1991, and ran several times for the US Congress or for city government.
Biography[]
Luigi R. Marano was born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York in 1921 to a family of Italian immigrants. He first ran for office in 1948 in an unsuccessful bid for city council, but he served in the State Assembly from 1957 to 1964. He then went on to run for the US Congress against Hugh Carey in 1964, but lost. In 1965, he was also defeated in his run for the Brooklyn borough presidency, but Mayor Robert F. Wagner appointed him a Family Court judge. From 1973 to 1991, he served on the Court of Claims, and he served until he reached the mandatory retirement age of 70. Afterwards, he practiced law in Bensonhurst, and continued to do so until 2011, his 90th birthday. He passed away in 2017 at the old age of 96.
