Luigi Facta (16 November 1861 – 5 November 1930) was Prime Minister of Italy from 26 February to 31 October 1922, succeeding Ivanoe Bonomi and preceding Benito Mussolini. He was a member of the Destra Liberale and Italian Liberal Party, and he was the last Prime Minister of Italy before Mussolini's fascist seizure of power after the March on Rome.
Biography[]
Luigi Facta was born in Pinerolo, Piedmont, Italy in 1861, and he worked as a journalist before becoming a member of Parliament in 1892. He came to hold various ministerial posts in Giovanni Giolitti's ministries, and he became Prime Minister in 1922. His efforts to stop Benito Mussolini's advance through secret negotiations and even through force were at best unconvincing, and his government collapsed on 28 October 1922 following Mussolini's March on Rome, making way for Mussolini's fascist takeover. In 1924, King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy made Facta a Senator, and he died in 1930.
