Ludwig III of Bavaria (7 January 1845-18 October 1921) was the final King of Bavaria from 5 November 1913 to 13 November 1918, succeeding Otto of Bavaria.
Biography[]
Ludwig was born on 7 January 1845 in Munich, Kingdom of Bavaria, the son of Bavarian regent Luitpold of Bavaria. He began his military career in 1861, and Ludwig was wounded during the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, when Bavaria allied with the Austrian Empire against Prussia. In 1913, he succeeded Otto of Bavaria as king of Bavaria, and he turned Bavaria into a parliamentary monarchy. Ludwig was overthrown as King of Bavaria after the November Revolution led to the downfall of the German Empire, and he died in exile in Sarvar, Hungary in 1921.
