Ludwig Froese (18 October 1775-2 June 1843) was a General of the Prussian Army during the Napoleonic Wars.
Biography[]
Ludwig Froese was born on 18 October 1775 in Wolfsburg, Brunswick, Germany, and he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in 1796 in the Prussian Army. He was dispatched to fight France in the War of the First Coalition in the French Revolutionary Wars, and he rose to the rank of Colonel in 1805 at the start of the Napoleonic Wars. Froese was a veteran of campaigns against Napoleon, but in 1812 he was forced to fight alongside him when Prussia and France allied against the Russian Empire. At the Battle of Wielbark, his army was defeated by the Russians, and he was forced to retreat. After the alliances switched, Froese led his army against the French, and he drove into France in 1814. After the end of the wars, Froese was given command of the Prussian 3rd Army in Poland, putting down a few rebellions by Polish patriots. He died in 1843 in Berlin.
