Lucy Mack Smith (8 July 1775-14 May 1856) was the wife of Joseph Smith Sr. and the mother of Alvin, Hyrum, and Joseph Smith.
Biography[]
Lucy Mack was born in Gilsum, New Hampshire in 1775 to a Presbyterian family, and she married Joseph Smith Sr. in Tunbridge, Vermont in 1796. She was the one responsible for the religious and moral guidance and the secular education of their children, preparing them for their involvement in the Charismatic Movement. The family later settled in Palmyra, New York, where her son Joseph Smith had his first revelations from God. In 1827, when Joseph obtained the golden plates, his mother stopped attending Presbyterian meetings, and she would become a mother figure to converts who were baptized into the LDS Church. She outlived her husband and her sons, with Joseph and Hyrum being killed by an angry mob at the Carthage, Illinois jail. She died in Nauvoo in 1856.
