Lucius Paulus (440-476) was general of the Western Roman Empire during the 5th century AD. The brother of Flavius Orestes and uncle of the emperor Romulus Augustulus, he served in the Roman Army, rising to a high rank. In August 476, after the defeat of Orestes' forces by the rebellious foederati leader Odoacer, the rebels laid siege to Ravenna, defended by Lucius Paulus and its garrison. The siege lasted almost two months, and Paulus was killed, Augustus abdicated the throne, and the Western Roman Empire fell.
