Lu Yan

Lu Yan (?-280) was the Grand Viceroy of Eastern Wu.

Biography[]

Lu Yan was the eldest son of Lu Kang and the brother of Lu Jing, Lu Xuan, Lu Ji, and Lu Yun. On his father's death in 274 AD, Lu Yan inherited his titles, including Grand Viceroy. He was commissioned as a Major-General of Eastern Wu and served as Inspector of Yidao, and he urged Emperor Sun Hao to strengthen the defenses of Wu's western border against Western Jin. However, the unwise Sun Hao did not prepare, and in 280 AD Jin began the conquest of Wu. Wang Jun led a fleet down the Yangtze River and captured all Wu fortresses in the way, and Lu Yan was captured. Along with fellow Wu generals Liu Xian, Cheng Ju, and Yu Zhong, he was captured and executed by Jin.
