
Lower Township is a township in Cape May County, New Jersey. The area was inhabited by the Kechemeche Lenape before the European arrival, and the area was settled by the Dutch as a whaling village in 1640. On 2 April 1723, Lower Township was formed as a precinct, and it was incorporated on 21 February 1798. In 2016, Lower Township had a population of 22,007 people.
