Lower Manhattan is the southernmost part of Manhattan, New York City. The area, also known as "Downtown", is the financial and political center of New York City, with the Financial District and Civic Center both being located in the area. Since the early 20th century, Lower Manhattan has been an important center for arts and leisure activities, with Greenwich Village and SoHo being notable examples of artistic communities; the area is also home to the famous Chinatown neighborhood, the Museum of the American Indian, Federal Hall, City Hall, Trinity Church, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
