The Louisiana Tigers was a brigade of the Confederate States Army that served in the Army of Northern Virginia during the American Civil War. The regiment was first led by Chatham Roberdeau Wheat while it was a company-size formation, and it later expanded to a battalion and a brigade under Richard Taylor. 12,000 troops served in regiments that belonged to the Louisiana Tigers, and many regiments were reduced to less than 100 men by the war's end, with the fearsome Tigers suffering heavy losses (including Wheat, killed during the Peninsula Campaign in 1862).
