
Louis de Rohan Guémené (1635-27 November 1674) was the Master of the Hunt of the Kingdom of France and Colonel of the Guards of King Louis XIV of France.
Biography[]
Louis de Rohan Guémené was born in Paris, France in 1635, the son of Louis VIII de Rohan Guémené. He served in the French Royal Army during the Franco-Spanish War from 1654 to 1659 and in the Franco-Dutch War of 1672-1673, and he was made King Louis XIV of France's Master of the Hunt. Rohan also served as his Colonel of the Guards at Versailles, and he became known for his many romantic adventures. In 1669, he was forced to resign as Grand Huntsman, and the debt-ridden Rohan conspired with the United Provinces to seize Quillebeuf and create an independent republic in Normandy. He was arrested on 11 September 1674, and he was beheaded on the Rue Saint-Antoine on 27 November.
