Louis XVII of France (27 March 1785-8 June 1795) was the undeclared king of France from 21 January 1793 to 8 June 1795, succeeding King Louis XVI of France and preceding King Louis XVIII of France, who took power in 1814.
Biography[]
Prince Louis-Charles was born on 27 March 1785 to King Louis XVI of France and his wife Queen Marie-Antoinette of France. During the French Revolution, he was held captive with his family in the Tuileries Palace, and some people tried to take him around Paris to show him the plight of the poor and make him feel guilty. However, he said that he was born to be a king, and ignored the peasants' attempts to guilt him.
In 1793, his mother and father were killed. Prince Louis, now the de facto king of France, was imprisoned by the French government. Around the same time, an impostor claiming to be the prince (who later claimed to be the prince's groom who was alleged to have grown up with him) was held hostage by the Templar Order as a bargaining chip, but they began to lose interest in him. "Le Fils de Capet" was rumored to be alive and living in Paris. The Committee of Public Safety posted papers that told the people to bring any information on his whereabouts to them. The impostor was rescued from a Saint-Marcel district Templar hideout by Assassin Order Master Assassin Arno Dorian, who killed the guards there and took him to a boat on the Seine river, where a female Assassin who had earlier told Arno of the prince's status told Arno that the man was not the prince. The impostor claimed that he was the prince's groom and later said that he grew up with him, hoping to avoid certain death. However, the female Assassin took him with her because he had important information.
The real Louis XVII died in 1795 at the age of ten, not a teenager or young adult like the impostor.
