
Louis II "the Stammerer" of West Francia (844-10 April 879) was the king of Aquitaine from 866 to 877, succeeding Charles III of Aquitaine and preceding Ranulf II of Aquitaine and king of West Francia from 877 to 879, succeeding Charles II of West Francia and preceding Louis III of France and Carloman II of West Francia.
Biography[]
Louis the Stammerer was born in 844, the son of Charles the Bald and Ermentrude of Orleans. Louis was a French Christian of the House of Karling, and he succeeded his younger brother Charles III of Aquitaine as king of Aquitaine when he died in 866 at the age of 19. Louis reigned as Louis II of Aquitaine until 877, when he succeeded his father as king of West Francia, remaining Louis II. Louis was king of France for only two years, and when he died, his realm was divided between Louis III of France and Carloman II of West Francia.
