Louis Folwell Hart (4 January 1862-4 December 1929) was the Republican Governor of Washington from 13 February 1919 to 14 January 1925, succeeding Ernest Lister and preceding Roland H. Hartley.

Biography[]

Louis Folwell Hart was born in High Point, Missouri in 1862, and he moved to Snohomish, Washington in the late 1880s to practice law. He became an insurance agent in Tacoma in 1899 and went on to serve as Lieutenant Governor from 1913 to 1919 and as Governor from 1919 to 1925, overseeing the creation of a state highway patrol, the reduction of the number of administrative agencies from 75 to 10, and the construction of a new state capitol. He retired to Tacoma on leaving office and died in 1929.
