Louis Cohen (1 January 1904-28 January 1939), born Louis Kerzner, was a Jewish-American mob hitman who murdered Nathan Kaplan in 1923.
Biography[]
Louis Cohen was born in New York City, New York on 1 January 1904, and he worked as a minor criminal under Jewish Mob boss Jacob Orgen during the early 20th century. In 1923, Louis Buchalter, Jacob Shapiro, and Legs Diamond hired Cohen to assassinate Nathan Kaplan, whom he shot as he left the Essex Court House in Manhattan. He was arrested, and he was released on parole in 1937. In 1939, he was gunned down by Buchalter's Murder, Inc. hitmen before he could testify against Buchalter's role in several murders.
