Louis Antoine de Noailles (27 May 1651-4 May 1729) was the Archbishop of Paris from 1695 to 1729, succeeding Francois de Harlay de Champvallon and preceding Charles-Gaspard-Guillaume de Vintimille du Luc.
Biography[]
Louis Antoine de Noailles was born in 1651, the son of Anne de Noailles and the brother of Anne Jules de Noailles. He became Bishop of Cahors in 1679 and was later sent to head the Diocese of Chalons-sur-Marne in 1680; he became a peer of France. In 1695, due to his familial connections, King Louis XIV of France appointed Noailles the new Archbishop of Paris, and he raised money for famine victims by selling his silver tableware in 1709, also spending most of his inheritance on redecorating Notre Dame. He served as his archbishop until his 1729 death.
