Louis A. Wiltz

Louis Alfred Wiltz (21 January 1843-16 October 1881) was the Democratic Mayor of New Orleans from 30 November 1872 to 30 November 1874 (succeeding Benjamin Flanders and preceding Charles J. Leeds) and Governor of Louisiana from 14 January 1880 to 16 October 1881 (succeeding Francis T. Nicholls and preceding Samuel D. McEnery).

Biography[]

Louis Alfred Wiltz was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1843, a descendant of Spanish and German settlers. He served as a court clerk before serving in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. After the war, he became involved in Democratic politics, serving as Mayor of New Orleans from 1872 to 1874 and as Governor from 1880 until his death in 1881.
