Lothaire II of Italy (926-22 November 950), born Lothair of Arles, was King of Italy from 948 to 950, succeeding Hugh of Italy and preceding Berengar II of Italy.
Biography[]
Lothaire was born in 926 to the Bosonids, and he was the son of Hugh of Italy. On 12 December 947, he married Adelaide of Italy, the daughter of Rudolph II of Burgundy and Bertha of Swabia, concluding a peace between his father and Burgundy. In 948, he was crowned Rex Italiae, but he never held real power there, being poisoned by his rival Berengar of Ivrea while at Turin in 950; Berengar proclaimed himself "Berengar II of Italy", bringing the House of Ivrea to power.
