Los Choneros is an Ecuadorian organized crime syndicate and drug cartel based in the city of Guayaquil. Founded in Chone in the 1990s, the gang was founded by Jorge Bismark Veliz Espana. Los Choneros came to have a notable presence along much of the country's coastline, and it was involved in drug trafficking, extortion, and robbery. The Sinaloa Cartel utilized the Choneros as their armed wing in the country, and the Choneros trafficked cocaine and came to include Ecuadorian security officials and politicians. In 2024, following Jose Adolfo Macias Villamar's escape from prison, the gang staged an uprising against Daniel Noboa's government.
