Lorrin A

Lorrin Alanson Cooke (6 April 1831-12 August 1902) was the Republican Governor of Connecticut from 6 January 1897 to 4 January 1899, succeeding Owen Vincent Coffin and preceding George E. Lounsbury.

Biography[]

Lorrin Alanson Cooke was born in New Marlborough, Massachusetts in 1831, and he worked as a schoolteacher in Norfolk, Connecticut before moving to Colebrook and becoming a farmer. He served in the General Assembly in 1856, as Postmaster of Riverton from 1877 to 1881, in the State Senate from 1883 to 1885, as Lieutenant Governor from 1885 to 1887 and from 1895 to 1897, and as Governor from 1897 to 1899. He died in 1902.
