Long Island is an island located off the coast of the United States, located in the state of New York. It is separated from Connecticut by the Long Island Sound, and the island's eastern boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn are considered to be a part of the New York City metropolitan area, including Manhattan island, The Bronx, and Staten Island. The island has a population of 7,838,722, 40% of the state population. 54.7% of the population are whites, 20.4% African-Americans, .49% Native Americans, 12.3% Asians, .05% Pacific islanders, 8.8% other races, and 3.2% multiracial; 20.5% are Hispanics of any race.
