Lofty the Loaf was born in New York City, New York, and he became the owner of Liberto's bakery in Brooklyn. He was forced to pay protection to the Barzini crime family and to allow for Gregor Reisdorfiev to serve as racket boss of his industry. In December 1945, Corleone crime family enforcer Aldo Trapani forced Lofty to pay protection to the Corleones instead.
