Liu Yong was the second son of Liu Bei. Just before his father died in 223, he was called with his younger brother, Liu Li to his father's bedside. He was told to treat Zhuge Liang as a father and to work together with his siblings. They opposed Huang Hao, Liu Shan's favorite retainer, and were forbidden entry into the palace; for ten years, they never saw their older brother. He was sent to Luoyang after the Fall of Shu.
