Littleton Waller Tazewell (17 December 1774 – 6 May 1860) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-VA 13) from 26 November 1800 to 3 March 1801 (succeeding John Marshall and preceding John Clopton), a US Senator from Virginia from 7 December 1824 to 16 July 1832 (succeeding John Taylor and preceding William Cabell Rives), and Governor of Virginia from 31 March 1834 to 30 April 1836 (succeeding John Floyd and preceding Wyndham Robertson).
Biography[]
Littleton Waller Tazewell was born in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1774, and he was admitted to the bar in 1796. Tazewell went on to serve in the House of Delegates from 1798 to 1800, 1809 to 1812, and from 1816 to 1817, and in the US House of Representatives from 1800 to 1801, serving as a Democratic-Republican. In 1824, he was elected to the US Senate to fill a vacancy caused by the death of John Taylor, and he served until 1832, when he resigned in order to become Governor. He served as Governor of Virginia from 1834 to 1836, and he died in Norfolk in 1860.
