Little Rock Nine

Members of the Little Rock Nine being escorted into Central High School

The Little Rock Nine was a group of nine African-American students that enrolled at Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas 1957. Governor Orval Faubus defied Brown v. Board of Education and attempted to prevent the students from entering the school; he was supported by crowds of segregationist whites. President Dwight D. Eisenhower decided to send the US 101st Airborne Division to forcefully open the school, and the segregationists were defeated when Faubus was forced to allow the school to be integrated. The Little Rock Nine were heroes of the Civil Rights movement, which won a great victory.
