Lita Torres

Lita Torres (died 2021) was a Yaran revolutionary who was affiliated with the Movimiento Libertad.

Biography[]

Lita Torres was born in Esperanza, Yara, and she was orphaned at a young age and raised in an orphanage alongside Dani Rojas and Alejo Ruiz. The three of them served in the Fuerzas Nacionales de Defensa (FND), receiving military training that Lita would use to become a guerrillera with the Movimiento Libertad during Anton Castillo's dictatorship. Clara Garcia sent Torres to recruit rebels in Esperanza, and, while there, she, Dani, and Alejo were scheduled to be drafted into Yara's Viviro-producing tobacco fields as corvee labor. The three intended to flee to Miami, but Alejo was shot for throwing a glass bottle at FND soldiers from a rooftop. Lita and Clara escaped to the boat, but President Anton Castillo intercepted the vessel and retrieved his son Diego Castillo, who was being smuggled to safety in America, before ordering the navy to fire at the refugees in its hull. Lita was fatally wounded, and she and Rojas washed up on the Zamok Archipelago. In her last act, Lita gave Dani her cell phone and told her to join up with Clara and Libertad, who could help her leave the country, or whom Dani could help resist Castillo. She then died from her gunshot wound.
