Lincoln NM

Lincoln is an unincorporated community in Lincoln County, New Mexico, located 57 miles west of Roswell. It was settled by Spanish families as "Las Placitas del Rio Bonito" during the 1850s, but it was renamed to "Lincoln" (in honor of the late President Abraham Lincoln) after Lincoln County was created on 16 January 1869. The villlage was at the center of the Lincoln County War of 1876-79, and was the historical home of Billy the Kid. During World War II, the town's entire Japanese popultaion was interned. In 1960, the town was made a national landmark.
