
Liborio Mejia Gutierrez (28 July 1792-3 September 1816) was President of the United Provinces of New Granada from 22 June to 30 June 1816, succeeding Jose Fernandez Madrid and preceding Custodio Garcia Rovira.
Biography[]
Liborio Mejia was born in Rio Negro, Antioquia, Viceroyalty of New Granada in 1792. He joined the patriot cause during the Colombian War of Independence and commanded the Popayan garrison before being named Custodio Garcia Rovira's Vice President in 1816. In Garcia's absence, Mejia served as President for eight days before Garcia assumed the office. He was defeated in battle with the Spanish Royalists at the Battle of Cuchilla del Tambo on 29 June 1816 and was captured at La Plata, after which he was executed at Bogota.
