The Liberal Union of Spain was a conservative political party that existed in Spain from 1858 to 1874. The party was founded as a middle path between General Baldomero Espartero's radical liberal wing of the Progressive Party of Spain and the conservative liberals of the Moderate Party of Spain under General Ramon Maria Narvaez and Queen Mother Maria Christina of the Two Sicilies. The Liberal Union sought to preserve the monarchy while fighting against absolutism, and it favored centralized government and public investment. From 1858 to 1868, the Liberal Union controlled the government of Spain, and it merged into the Conservative Party of Spain in 1874.
