The Liberal Democrats, also known as the Lib Dems, is a liberal political party in the United Kingdom, founded on 3 March 1988 as a merger of the UK Liberal Party and the UK Social Democratic Party. The party became the third-largest political party in the United Kingdom after the UK Conservative Party and the UK Labor Party, having 57 seats in 2010 while the Tories had 306 seats and Labor had 258 seats. The party entered into a coalition with the Tories, only to drop to nine seats in 2015.
