Liao Jianjun (born 1942) was a Chinese expatriate doctor who lived in Soemoncho, Osaka, Japan during the 1980s. He ran an underground clinic from the Mahjong Jambalaya parlor, and he cared for the wounded Wen Hai Lee at his clinic in December 1988. On 15 December 1988, he was ambushed by Goro Majima at the Hogushi Kaikan chiropractor office, and Majima forced Jianjun to tell him where Lee was, before gut-punching him to knock him out and prevent him from warning Lee. Liao later brought three men to rescue Lee from Majima at the mahjong parlor, but Majima beat them down, and Majima formed an alliance with Lee to protect Makoto Makimura from the yakuza. On 16 December, Liao was bribed by the Sagawa-gumi to lead their hit squad to Makimura, and Liao reluctantly agreed, as Lee had previously advised Liao to put money before countrymen in order to survive as a Chinese man in Japan. He waited for Majima outside the Cabaret Grand and asked him to deliver some painkillers to Lee, and he and Sagawa's henchmen Tango Ikegami, Manabu Hanada, Ietsuna Fukazawa, and Anzai Shinoda tailed Majima to the warehouse. There, Liao tearfully apologized to Lee before Fukazawa struck him in the heart with a crowbar, critically wounding him. Majima would succeed in beating down all four of the hitmen, and Lee, who forgave Liao, brought him to the Mahjong Jambalaya clinic to be healed. Jianjun ultimately survived his near-fatal wounds.
