Li Zhang

Li Zhang (died 1878) was a Chinese-American triad gangster and a lieutenant of the Long Zii Tong in San Francisco during the 1870s. In 1878, he disputed Mai Ling's accession to the leadership of the tong on Long Zii's death, saying that it was absurd that the woman who single-handedly started a war with the Hop Wei Tong should be in charge. Mai Ling conceded to the other council members that she needed to demonstrate her strength, and, after saying that she would not be disrespected in her own house, she produced a pistol and shot Zhang in the forehead, killing him and sending a message to her late husband's lieutenants.
