Li Dian (174-209) was a veteran general who had been with Cao Cao since the beginning. A lover of learning, he had a very cool and careful personality. He had stopped the violence of his colleagues on numerous occasions. Together with Zhang Liao and Yue Jin, he served in the defense of Hefei.

Li Dian was born in 174 AD, and was with Cao Cao from the beginning. At a young age, he fought in the Yellow Turban Rebellion as one of Cao Cao's commanders, and in 190 AD, he was recruited along with Yue Jin by Cao Cao's cousin, Xiahou Dun as extra help for the alliance against Dong Zhuo.
However, Li Dian served in the Battle of Hulao Gate as one of Cao Cao's commanders, and he also participated in his suppression of the Yellow Turbans in Yan Province in 193 AD.
Li Dian continued to serve as one of Cao Cao's main officers due to his intellect, and he fought against Lu Bu frequently when he attempted to seize Yan Province. Li Dian was later present at the Battle of Guandu in 200 AD, the Battle of Changban in 208 AD, and the Battle of Chibi in 208-209 AD.
Li Dian's last command was at the Battle of Hefei in 209 AD, when he served alongside Zhang Liao and Yue Jin as one of Cao Cao's generals defending the two castles at Hefei. Li Dian assisted in the defeat of Taishi Ci's army of Sun Quan soldiers, and Taishi Ci was slain by an arrow fired by Zhang Liao. Li Dian died soon after the battle at the age of 35.
