Lexington Avenue NYC

Lexington Avenue is an avenue on the East Side of Manhattan, New York City, carrying southbound one-way traffic from 131st Street to Gramercy Park at 21st Street. The 5.5-mile street runs through Harlem, Carnegie Hill, the Upper East Side, Midtown, and Murray Hill, and it was developed from 1832 to 1836 and named for the Battle of Lexington. In 1899, Lexington Avenue was the site of New York City's first speeding arrest. The street was widened in 1918 and 1955, and it has carried downtown traffic since 1960.
