Lewis Williams (1 February 1782 – 23 February 1842) was a member of the US House of Representatives from North Carolina's 13th congressional district from 1815 to 1842, succeeding Meshack Franklin and preceding Anderson Mitchell.
Biography[]
Lewis Williams was born in Surry County, North Carolina in 1782, and he was the brother of John Williams and Robert Williams and the cousin of Marmaduke Williams. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1808, and he was elected to the State House of Commons in 1812 before being elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democratic-Republican Party member in 1815. Williams supported John Quincy Adams against Andrew Jackson, and he later joined the National Republican Party and the US Whig Party. He died in office in Washington DC in 1842 at the age of 60.
