Lewis Cass Carpenter (20 February 1836-6 March 1908) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-SC 3) from 3 November 1874 to 3 March 1875, succeeding Robert B. Elliott and preceding Solomon L. Hoge.

Biography[]

Lewis Cass Carpenter was born in Putnam, Connecticut in 1836, and he worked as a schoolteacher in New Jersey before becoming a press writer, moving to Washington DC in 1864, and then coming to Charleston, South Carolina in 1867 as a "carpetbagger". He edited the Charleston Courier and cofounded the Charleston Republican before serving in the US House of Representatives from 1874 to 1875, after which he moved to Denver and then to Leadville, Colorado in 1878, working as a census surveyor in 1880. He died in Denver in 1908.
