Les Actes des Apôtres was a French royalist society consisting of fanatical reactionaries who, through their newspaper, vehemently defended the Bourbon monarchy and criticized the institutions of the French Revolution. Les Actes des Apôtres, led by Renard Beaugendre, took part in the book-burning of rare manuscripts and books deemed favorable to revolutionary ideas. In September 1792, the Apôtres also took part in the theft of the French crown jewels, stealing 9,000 gemstones to finance their future operations. Arno Dorian, owner of the Cafe Theatre on the Île Saint-Louis, would hunt down and destroy the society.
