Leonnatus (356-322 BC) was a Macedonian general who served under Alexander the Great.
Biography[]
Leonnatus was born to an aristocratic Macedonian family in 356 BC, and he was the same age as Alexander the Great and was close friends with him. He later served as one of Alexander's seven bodyguards, and, after Alexander's death in 323 BC, the Macedonian regent Perdiccas made Leonnatus satrap of Phrygia. Leonnatus led 20,000 infantry and 1,500 cavalry to assist Antipater in crushing an Athenian revolt in the Lamian War, hoping to usurp Antipater's power. However, he was killed in battle, and his betrothal to Cleopatra of Macedon was never fulfilled.
