Leonard Neale

Leonard Neale (15 October 1746-18 June 1817) was Archbishop of Baltimore from 3 December 1815 to 18 June 1817, succeeding John Carroll and preceding Ambrose Marechal.

Biography[]

Leonard Neale was born in Port Tobacco, Maryland on 15 October 1746, and he became a Jesuit Catholic priest in 1777. He studied in France and in the Austrian Netherlands, and he tended to yellow fever victims in Philadelphia in 1793. From 1798 to 1806, he served as President of Georgetown University in Washington DC, later being consecrated Archbishop of Baltimore in 1815. He served for two years, and he died in 1817.
