Leonard Covington (30 October 1768 – 14 November 1813) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-MD 2) from 1805 to 1807, succeeding Walter Bowie and preceding Archibald Van Horne.
Biography[]
Leonard Covington was born in Aquasco, Prince George's County, Maryland in 1768, and he joined the US Army as a colonel in 1792 and distinguished himself while serving under Anthony Wayne in the Northwest Indian War. He served in the US House of Representatives from 1805 to 1807 and became a colonel of light dragoons in 1809, participating in the December 1810 takeover of West Florida. In August 1813, during the War of 1812, he was promoted to Brigadier-General, and he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Chrysler's Farm that same year.
