Lenox Avenue

Lenox Avenue, also called Malcolm X Boulevard, is the primary north-south route through Harlem in the upper portion of Manhattan, New York City. Running from Farmers' Gate at Central Park to 147th Street, the avenue was originally part of Sixth Avenue before being renamed in 1887 in honor of philanthropist Jame Lenox; in 1987, it was co-named to honor the black nationalist leader Malcolm X. The avenue was the heart of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1930s, as it brought together African-Americans, Latinos, Caribbean people, and Spaniards who shared tastes in jazz and food.
