The Lemovices were a Gaulish tribe of Central Europe who established themselves in Limousin and Poitou between 700 and 400 BC. In 52 BC, 10,000 Lemovices under chief Sedullos took part in Vercingetorix's uprising against the Roman general Julius Caesar during the Gallic Wars, but Sedullos was killed at the Battle of Alesia, and the tribe was subdued. The Limousin and the capital of Limoges are named for the Lemovices.
